I am an HRTM major. I never would have considered this a community before this part of the class, but now I am starting to see it. You see people over and over in classes and then you begin to develop friendships. All of the professors, secretaries, and advisors are very open to new students and wanting them to achieve as much as they can. The students are nice as well. They all understand what each person is going through, because they have all been in the same position before.
I am part of the Boys and Girls Club of America community. I have volunteered many times throughout my life time for this organization. This community is very open and willing to take anyone in. They are always looking for volunteers to help out with the kids and different projects going on such as coaching sports teams or being a Big Brother/Sister volunteer.
(I'm not real sure if this is what I was suppose to do, but I hope it is.)
Hey Pam-
ReplyDeleteYou're close. You've identified great groups, but now (after consulting my notes on the terms below) start thinking of specific ways language works in such groups.
For example, at NMSU we use language like Aggie and syllabus that those who aren't students don't get. WE also have shorthand for places (Freingers for the food court) or images (Pistol Pete) that mean special things to us that would mean something different to Lobos.
Let me know if you have questions about these things. They will be important to Essay 2.
