World War II poster
I chose Rosie the Riveter for my poster. I picked this poster because it is a very powerful poster and yet it has so little on it. Rosie the Riveter is a picture of a women who is participating in a mans world. She is dressed in a mans uniform, flexing her bicep, and she has on a very serious face. Her face has make-up on, her hair is done, and she is wearing a bandana. These features on the poster make sure that everyone knows that it is a woman. On top of her make-up it seems that she has dirt or something along those lines on her face, making her look more rugged. I think they chose the colors yellow and blue because the yellow catches your eyes and draws you in, while blue is referred to as a masculine color. The words “We Can Do It!” are bold, white, and at the top of the poster so you cannot miss them. This poster was the beginning of women’s rights. The women took the roles of men while they were off at war, they did the jobs and they did them well. Rosie the Riveter motivated women to step out of their ordinary lives, she told women to get out of their “house wives” rolls. She was the voice of women who believe that they were equal to men and capable of doing a man’s job.
